I watched a music awards show last year and started crying afterwards. I just felt really sad that people go along with stupid wack shit. I’m sorry, but LMFAO performed at the Super Bowl? Aren’t they a joke band? That type of shit makes me cry.
Santigold talks to us about the state of popular music and her forthcoming album, Master of My Make Believe. (via pitchfork)
Throwing my two cents in, I partially agree with what Santigold is talking about in this excerpt. Many “underground” acts such as Big K.R.I.T., Flying Lotus, James Blake, and others that are established and have extremely high-quality releases (I still hold that Big K.R.I.T.’s mixtape that released back in April 2011, “Return of 4Eva“ was one of the best hip hop releases all year.), but still managed to get overlooked for mainstream choices, and some of those choices are legitimate contenders, don’t get me wrong. Kanye was long overdue for some wins and Adele was destined to sweep up. But when Lil Wayne has the chance to win a grammy for “Tha Carter IV”, or Lupe Fiasco for “Lasers“ I have my doubts about the Grammys being a realistic awards show. I mean come on, Bruno Mars could have won RECORD OF THE YEAR with “Grenade“… That being said, I don’t really pay attention to what the old heads consider “good music.” They can keep their Top 40 radio hits and mainstream pop ‘n’ hip hop. I’ll stick with my iPod and music blogs for my needs thanks.
